I watched Al proofreading the typeset galleys of his book in the agency bullpen. I illustrated several of his principles for his slideshows. When Positioning was published, he proudly gave everyone in the agency a hand-signed copy inscribed, “May you practice what we preach.”
WOW Mitchell! What a memory. He was the best. Thanks for sharing. Were you an art director? I remember coming to the agency and seeing all the magic markers on the art desks. Always a thrill to go with my Dad to the agency.
I love the quote “Own one word the mind can hear, Be first in something, take a stand, Don’t try to be a rubber band.” Languaging is important. Owning the category is the way to go. I would like to give it proper attribution. Is this from Positioning?

Yes, I was young art director hired at RCC just out of college. I was the company illustrator, so I had a mountain of magic markers in every color.
I remember seeing you there as a young girl.
